Bronze Nude with Octopus, Gabbrielli (1930)
A monumental Italian bronze fountain sculpture by Donatello Gabbrielli, dated 1930, depicting a seated female nude entwined with an octopus on a rugged rock base. Conceived as a functioning fountain, the bronze incorporates discreet water outlets within the octopus, integrated cleanly into the casting. At 48 inches high and 46 inches wide, the sculpture has true architectural scale and a commanding presence. The surface retains a deep, naturally developed patina with beautiful verdigris concentrated in the recessed areas and across the octopus. Signed in the casting: D. Gabbrielli – Firenze – 1930.
